I really love the coarse texture in this--
The only thing I find kind of off is the soft glow about the berries, Like... If it's there, it's so subtle I can't tell for sure, and it seems kind of out of place with the rough brush strokes

It's a little flat--
Not in respect to the pose or linework, rather the contrast. Everything's spot-on, but it doesn't have enough contrast to give it a sense of depth. The eyes and color choice are WONDERFUL--but the rest of the piece needs the dynamic shift in value the eyes have too. Especially so in the skin.
I agree, a friend of mine did a quick overpaint and he was like "m8, do u even shade?".
I'll probably fix this piece and reupload it as soon as possible.
Thanks for your review :D
So you're a person with coffee instead of blood, too? haha
I feel like the only problems I have with this add to the quirk of it--The cup seems like it doesn't follow its shape, like the lower left of it looks as if it was cut off in the editing process, but it also adds to it in some way... BAH! same with the colored pencil textures, I like it, but I feel like I shouldn't--I dunno, haha. Overall it's very nice, I like I like
Thank you! It's funny because while I was deciding whether or not to post this, those two exact aspects bothered m SO BAD. The cup thing I was like "what the... Did I forget to draw that part?" And then I love texture but I hate the look of pencil lines. But then I was like whatever and posted it because it was weird and I'm emotionally attached. I appreciate you taking the time to really observe that though it means a lot
I've been looking through your work, and I have to say, I was kind of skeptical over whether it would be widely accepted or not, and this piece here certainly is a good vein to be in. When you work in color, it's kind of... a wide pallet, the color choice doesn't really have much of a sense of cohesion. This piece right here is bloody beautiful, but there's always room for improvement.
The bodies need a clearer sense of form, overall-- and color needs cohesion, but you're certainly on track to something really great.
I'd focus on anatomy studies, and color to begin with, and gradually move into hand-drawn backgrounds.
thank you for your honest feedback.
I second that~ Marvelous control of the medium. If I might ask, how long did this take you? When working with traditional mediums, I can NEVER pull off such a--Blah, I wanna say precise modulation of value, but I'm pretty sure that's not what I mean, haha. More so, mixing a good hue for skin. It's reminiscent of classic oil paintings, but it's watercolor, and the contrast exhibited, despite the medium is pretty amazing.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your comment.
Honestly, i can't tell for sure, somewhere from 6 to 8 hours, i'm going to check time next time i paint :D I think it just takes a lot of practice to get used to certain mediums. I've been painting with watercolors for a few years now and trust me i've done some terrible paintings :D
"It's reminiscent of classic oil paintings" - is such a compliment for me, 'cuz classic art inspires me a lot :)
It feels very vacant, and the gradient background just kills me, but stylistically, you've definitely got something going on. The feet seem kind of poor in relation to the face/hair region too- But YEH... Yeh... If it had more going on, It'd be LOADS better~
Thank you so much for the comment! I really appreciate it!
I totally agree with you on all accounts (especially the feet haha), so thank you so much for giving me feedback! :)
Something about the body seems off in proportion. The alignment of the neck seems weirder and weirder the more I look at it, same with the front-most leg and arm (the lower curve of the leg seems to "skip" a bit, and extend a little too low, the armpit is virtually non-existent because the breast seems to follow the path of the pectoral muscle, rather than form over top of it)
THAT BEING SAID, the work in color is phenomenal, and the face and hands are perfect
thank you for the constructive criticism. I can see that, maybe it looks a little weird haha thanks again!
Really liking the simple, bold geometry- Reminds me of Jhonen Vasquez's work in that respect, but it's got its own flavor of asymmetry going on. The only real flaw I'd say is the insubstantial nature of it, which is also one of its positive qualities, it adds to the quirk. Hard to achieve a happy medium in that realm of~~things
I really like the amount of detail you put in the iris and lashes, But a couple of things bother me. The tear duct looks a little too pointed and bright for its location on the eye. Second would be how stark the shading is on the left side of the eyeball itself. I feel it could use some gradual modulation toward the iris. The shadow doesn't seem to fit the form of the eye either, But that could be potentially because of the sharpness, i'm not entirely sure... But other than that, I love it, and respect the amount of time it seems you've put in it.
Thank you so much for your critique. This was actually the first drawing I did in a few months for the fact I have been in a serious art rut. I made this to prove to myself I still have some talent left and focused a lot on the iris and not so much on the surrounding area. Next time I will go further in depth and put more time towards the rest. Thank you again, very awesome input :D
I've always been a fan of dark, inky, dripping art, So i'm liking this. Reminds me of Stephen Gammel's work in scary stories, except with a slightly harder edge about it.
Ornery curmudgeon--Keep telling myself "YEAH, I'll do art again someday" and then I work 4 12 hour shifts in a row
